A new key biodiversity platform for cross sectoral collaboration
For its inaugural launch, World Biodiversity Summit will help define what world leaders and the private sector in biodiversity and climate action need to do in the medium and long term to achieve sustainable development and hinder further biodiversity loss, focusing on partnerships and investment mechanisms as levers of progress. World Biodiversity Summit is a platform for responding to accelerating biodiversity loss, by using the Paris Agreement as a framework to learn from, promoting relevant solutions, innovations, and leadership networks, strengthening nature restoration and conservation. Nature-based solutions will be highlighted, from specificecosystems to global possibilities.

Dr. Catherine Machalaba
Principal Scientist, Health and Policy, EcoHealth Alliance
Catherine Machalaba is the Principal Scientist for Health and Policy at the conservation and global health organization EcoHealth Alliance. Her work focuses on risk reduction strategies that protect biodiversity, ecosystems, and human health. She was a lead author of the World Bank Operational Framework for Strengthening Human, Animal and Environmental Public Health Systems at their Interface (“One Health Operational Framework”) published in 2018 to assist countries and donor institutions in implementing One Health approaches. She is a member of the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP), an expert group formed in 2021 to advise the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health, and the United Nations Environment Programme. She served as programme officer for the IUCN Species Survival Commission Wildlife Health Specialist Group for ten years. Catherine holds a masters in public health and a PhD in environmental and planetary health sciences.
